Community is at the heart of all we do, including our treatment approach. Our model of care is known as community integration, which is an effective, alternative model to traditional residential care, where treatment takes place within one's community rather than within the walls of a clinic office or hospital. Community integration programs recognize the importance of individuals maintaining their social roles within their communities rather than separating them to focus solely on treatment. Instead, mental health support is provided within an individual's own community, allowing for each person to build a fulfilling life on their own terms.
Research has shown that the community integration model is associated with lower rates of re-hospitalization, shorter hospital stays and decreased rates of loneliness and depressive symptoms. Additionally, mental health treatment combined with a community integration approach is associated with improved ability to maintain social relationships, an increased likelihood to obtain and maintain gainful employment and making sustained progress in treatment. The Step by Step team embraces the community integration model and recognizes its inherent value in our clients' success. Step by Step is an approved site for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
